SINGLE SEX SCHOOLING CATCHES ON The number of public schools in the United States experimenting with single-sex education has increased during the past decade from five to at least 241. Educators hope that it will help students learn better. The trend has been encouraged by the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act, which apparently contradicts the 1972 Title IX law banning sex discrimination in federally funded programmes, including public schools and college sports programmes.
